The company who brings you the delicious liquid known as southern comfort are sponsoring a free show next weekend (September 13th) for those over 21 at the Altamont Fairgrounds. The show featuring the P4k approved Parisian DJ dou Justice, MGMT, The Whigs, Lotus and the Heartless Bastards was originally scheduled to take place at the Saratoga Raceway but was switched recently to the more in the middle of nowhere venue.
Southern Comfort has sponsored other concerts like this in big cities across the country, most recently in Philadelphia and with and it seems obvious that SoCo is directing their advertising dollars squarly at the hipper younger set and if I had to guess this show is going to cost quite a few advertising dollars. My only question is, are there any21+ people around here who care about seeing Justice, MGMT and the Whigs?
The problem is confounded by the fact that whoever was in charge of booking local bands has a real thing for cheesy, horrible pop rock bands that I’ve never heard of before. With the exception of Severe Severe who are actually awesome and have been around for a while I hadn’t even heard of any of the other local bands who were put on the bill. Of the two local sponsors I have a feeling that WEQX was in charge of this somehow because the Metroland usually has a better feel of the local music scene.
If anybody is going to this, leave a comment I am interested to see what other people think about the event.

MGMT canceled but Matt and Kim played which was awesome, and Severe Severe was great as well! The other locals didn’t really stand out unfortunately and was like rock ska, I left before Justice but that was my bad, I ran out of money for the Soco and sobering up became very painful.
